Albert G. Dobbins III, AICP, is the sole proprietor of Al Dobbins Consulting a planning and development consulting practice.

Since 2016 Al has served as a subconsultant for Gray & Pape, Inc., supporting business development, client relations, and project oversight services, and has teamed with Gray & Pape, Inc. on cultural heritage projects in Richmond, VA (Lumpkin’s Slave Jail Site) and Petersburg, VA (Jarratt House). From 2007-2014, Al was the deputy director of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Prince George’s County Planning Department, where he assisted the planning director in managing the agency’s work program, $35M budget and 190-person staff. Al was the principal planning and development consultant with A. G. Dobbins & Associates from 1995 to 2000, and from 1977 through 1995 he was DC planning director, deputy director of the Brooklyn Borough Office of the New York Department of City Planning, associate director for planning with Richmond Renaissance, Inc. in Richmond, VA, and senior planner for the City of Richmond.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Al earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, American Institute of Certified Planners, and American Planning Association. Last but not least, Al is a skilled DSLR photographer and PADI-certified Master Scuba Diver with specialties in underwater photography and videography, underwater archaeology, and coral reef restoration.
