Craig Barton is currently the university architect and professor in practice of architecture at Brown University. He previously held the positions of provost and senior vice president of academic affairs for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and as professor of the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects.

Barton is a trained architect and designer who investigates issues of race, memory and identity and their interpretation through architectural and urban design. Much of his work focusses on assisting African American communities to preserve and interpret their significant cultural resources and to use them to stimulate community development.
