Michael C. Houck
Mike Houck, executive director of the Urban Greenspaces Institute, works on local, regional, and national urban park and greenspace issues. He served as urban naturalist for the Audubon Society of Portland for 36 years. His work focuses on integration of the built and natural environments and incorporating green infrastructure for the city of Portland’s watershed and stormwater planning efforts. He serves on the City of Portland’s Planning and Sustainability Commission and on the board of directors for The Intertwine Alliance. He is also a co-founder and board member of The Nature of Cities. Houck has been honored by the Chevron Corporation national conservation award; the Heidelberg, Germany, Award for Environmental Excellence in 2002; the National American Society of Landscape Architects “Honorary ASLA” Member in 2007; the National Garden Club of America Frances K. Hutchinson Medal in 2010; and the Portland State University Urban Pioneer Award in 2011.
