Catherine Buell is a dynamic housing and community development executive who created and oversaw Amazon’s Housing Equity Fund to preserve and create affordable homes in the Seattle, Washington; Arlington, Virginia; and Nashville,Tennessee regions.

With a commitment of $2+ billion and a goal of 20,000 homes by 2025, the Fund has ensured affordability of existing homes and constructed transit-oriented properties, resulting in over 12,400 affordable homes to date. Catherine also created signature grant initiatives, including a $21 million accelerator program, with training, mentorship, and early investment capital for emerging developers of color.

Catherine has held successful leadership roles as the president and CEO of the Atlanta Housing Authority, chair of the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board, and executive director of the St. Elizabeth’s East Campus in Washington D.C.’s Ward 8. Her community development work focuses on new approaches and large scale investments to drive progress in diverse, underserved communities in a successful and collective way.
