Chester Mattson began his career in Hackensack, NJ, for the Hackensack Meadowlands Commission as director of Planning and Environment. Subsequently, he was director of the Port Authority of NY and NJ, CEO and director for the Liberty State Park Development Corporation, director of Planning for Bergan County, NJ, and was a planner on loan for projects such as the NJ Transportation Planning Authority and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

He received a B.A. at Tufts University, a masters at Yale University and a PhD in Urban Studies at MIT. Chet retired in 2002 and with his wife, Joan, relocated to Skidaway Island.
