Edgar Garcia is an arts and culture civic leader with the City of Los Angeles.

With over twenty years experience in cultural policy, arts administration, historic preservation, and urban planning, he most recently served as director of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, the city’s oldest cultural district. Previously, as arts and culture deputy and executive officer to the Mayor of Los Angeles, he oversaw all city cultural municipal agencies.

Edgar began his public service as preservation planner for the Office of Historic Resources, designating nearly two-hundred landmarks reflecting underrepresented groups. He served on a US Department-sponsored ICOMOS exchange leading architectural survey projects.

Born in Los Angeles to first generation immigrants from Mexico, Edgar was raised in Downtown LA’s working class communities, where he continues to live and work. He is a graduate of Yale University and UCLA.
