Thaddeus Pawlowski is a design leader astride the intersection of academia, government, civil
society, and professional practice, dedicated to advancing resilience and equity in the built
environment. He is the founder of Partners in Public Design, which mobilizes the power of design
to help communities navigate positive transformation, and the Managing Director of Columbia
University’s Center for Resilient Cities and Landscapes, where he leads global collaborations to
address the frontlines of climate change.

Previously, Thaddeus worked 14 years in New York City government, shaping policies and projects
for resilient infrastructure, recovery, and rebuilding in the wake of climate disasters. He holds a
Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and was a Loeb Fellow (2014–15) at
Harvard University. His expertise spans urban design for climate adaptation, climate-resilient
housing and relocation, and integrated approaches to economic, social, and ecological resilience in
post-industrial cities.
